BOOKMARK SPRING
2004
GREETINGS FROM THE DIRECTOR:
We’re buried under 10 inches of snow. That’s on top of the 8 inches
that fell last week. It’s pretty clear what’s in store for us this
winter. And pretty it is! I can’t help it. I love the snow. No use coming
in to yell or thinking evil thoughts about me. There is nothing else
like watching the snow falling, coating the trees and scooping up shovelful
after shovelful. I am lucky enough to live in Ardsley as well as work here
and know first hand what a great job our village department of public works
does at cleaning the streets and digging out the Library lot for us. Because
of their diligence, we can open the library safely. So come on down, we’ll
be here.
I would like to see more of you here. This season we will be offering
some programs for adults again. We are very lucky to have many generous Friends
of the Library who not only pay for our collection of videos and DVDs but
also for all the programming here at the library. We want to offer some
interesting programs for you all. So look inside, join us if something appeals
to you. Let me know if there are things you would like to see or do
at the library.
This library belongs to you. Take advantage of it. Enjoy it.
Keep well, and I hope to see you here at the Library!
Angela
RITA'S ADVISORY:
Q: WHO ARE THEY??
A: Debut novel authors you might enjoy reading
Coplin, Keith. Crofton’s Fire
Adventures of a young lieutenant in the post Civil War army. A mix of
Western and war novel. Brutally realistic, balanced with humor and
a bit of romance. A very likable character.
Compton, Jodi. 37th Hour
Minneapolis detective faces the most disturbing case of her career when
her husband mysteriously vanishes. Kirkus says Compton “Plots intelligently,
writes elegantly and creates characters you believe in. A dazzling debut.”
Dunbar, Dayna. Saints and Sinners of Okay County
Aletta has had the ability to converse with ghosts and see future lives
of others since she was a young girl. In doing so she must also confront
her past and bring order to her life. If you like Fannie Flagg, you will
enjoy this appealing first novel.
Niffenegger, Audrey Time Traveler’s Wife
Time-travel romance, cleverly executed. Henry, a rare-books librarian,
has a genetic condition that causes him to time-travel. The trips triggered
by stress are unpredictable and his destination is usually connected to
an important event in his life. A compelling read.
